cabin air filter replacement
Oh. My. Goodness. Have y'all watched the video for replacing the M3/Y cabin air filters? And I thought it was a pain to change the air filter in my 2013 Prius! Who could possibly have thought that this was a good design? Thank goodness it's only every two years. 2026, here I come...
If anyone has actually done this, how long did it take you? Is it easier than it looks in the video?
You can pay mobile service to come do it if you want.
That's nice. But I wonder how much they charge....
If I remember correctly, it’s about $120. Not too bad for not having to do the work yourself, but the option is always there.
Actually had mine done today. They did it in my driveway. $78
What year is your car?
Newer ones have screw at bottom that make it 10x easier
My 2019 top screw was a pain
2024 M3RWD. I saw in the video that some have a top screw. The bottom one does look easier!
As with anything it will become easier the more you do it and become more familiar with the process. I was nervous the first time, but figured it out. Just changed it again a few months ago. It took a total of maybe 10 minutes. The more you do it the easier it becomes. 2018 M3LR so my screw is on the top.
The top screw one was made dramatically easier by buying an aftermarket cover that replaces the screw with a magnet. I haven't minded changing mine since getting that.
Well, aside from having to lay in the floorboard there. Have never found a way to do that where I wasn't sore somewhere the next day.
Try doing this in a 2019 RHD car. The pedals get in the way. One of those forehead slapping moments that make you realise they didn’t really think things through in the early days.
I had mobile service do that and a few other things for the 2 year service, and total cost was like $80-$120 each time depending on what things were done. Super convenient and well worth it for most Tesla owners I would expect, considering the value of one's time.
Lol this is not hard at all…i did my ‘23 M3 rwd in less than an hour including spraying the foam to clean the evaporator fins.
It’s not bad. I’ve done 3 cars now.
Filter change + coil cleaning.
It's very easy if you have a 1/4" ratchet and t20 bit. (My car has the top screw)
If you're not too limber that top screw can be a pain I imagine.
It's not too bad once you understand that it's dumb design. It takes me about 45 mins start to finish. The right tools are key.
