Tire Replacement-Tesla Service Centre or Costco
Is it better to buy and replace tires from Tesla Model 3 or local Costco or Tire stores can replace them with full efficiency? I’m worried about any impact on driving if not replaced from Tesla service center. But the costs of tires are $$$ at Tesla. What’s the most recommended tires for Tesla?
None of the above. Go to Discount Tire
Is this discounttire.com? I dunno if their website isn't working properly or if it's my browser, but it only shows locations in PA and I'm in NY.
That is the correct site. I just checked and they didn't show anything in New York either. I thought for sure they were New York.
I got mine done at Costco 9/2022 - everything went smoothly and saved a lot of $ compared to the Tesla quote. 10/10 would recommend
It’s hard to beat Costco’s deals on Michelins and Bridgestones when they are on special. They usually alternate having one or the other on special each month.
I just ordered tires today - after doing some research on the sub, a popular one seems to be the Michelin CrossClimate2. I shopped around and the pricing for the tires seemed to be similar everywhere. Ended up getting them at Mavis because installation/balancing charge seemed to be cheaper than a lot of other places and they offer free tire rotations on tires they install.
Same as your previous vehicle.
Done costco and discount tire/americas tire - would definitely do discount tire next time. and get that warranty.
Sucks if they truly aren't in your area.
I understand this is from 1+ months ago, but instead of creating a new post. I was wondering if you guys give the non-Tesla tire shops the key card or do you guys put in valet mode, service mode, or start the car for them to drive into shop? I will be going to Costco tires in a few days. TIA!
I went to town fair tire and got “affordable tires” but then had a wobble at low speeds. Went to tesla to see if it was something else wrong. Said they mounted and balanced the tires wrong and because they were “cheap” tires Tesla punctured one of them during the inspection. Now I have 3 tires the same, and one different. I’ve been in the waiting room for 2 hours. Wtf.
Does aaa change spare tires
Well, I guess we are here to share personal anecdotes to help each other so here is my two cents...
The repair shop guy I go to (for my other cars) and fully trust advised against using Costco tires, saying that even though the brand names you will recognize, they were specifically designed and built for costco and cost cutting also meant cutting corners elsewhere.
I cannot verify this but again, he was speaking from experience and earned my trust over 20 yrs so personally I would chose to pay extra and get it services at Tesla.
This is partly true. Costco offers both tires made specifically for Costco, and also the regular tires that you’d get at any other retailer. The Costco-only tires are not the top of the line, newest tech, etc., but will be satisfactory for most ordinary drivers. Michelin and Bridgestone aren’t going to put their name on junk tires.
The way I look at it, if you are buying from a bridgestone cheaper at costco, you should know that you are buying a tire that is build to a lower standard to fit the price. That does not mean it is junk. You're making a decision based on cost.
If that decision is deliberate, you have the facts, all good then. But if you are under the illusion that you are buying the same quality, somehow cheaper, that's not the case.
Get it at Tesla. They might do mobile service. Convenience trumps cost.
My old Costco would not replace just one, had to be 2 tires
I get my tires from tire rack and have a local installer put them on. It helps that I'm not too far from their Delaware distribution center and can drive down and pick them up. No sales tax and no shipping costs.
Tesla will charge you an arm and leg. If your replacing all 4 check if Costco is running a promotion on the tires you want, if not just go to discount tires.
