Is there an official way to exit out of the game?
I just go to the main menu, then press the homebutton. Is there like a "logout" button I don't know about?

Same here using main menu for safety, but never experienced or heard about a save file corruption or rollback issue with sudden killing of the game with swiping up at the App Switcher.

Whether tabbing out or exiting to MM, I believe the game progresses 3 minutes after you left for all the rooms, while explorers are considered real time, and will calculate everything they have killed/found when you go to load it.
