How do I precondition the battery when charging at non superchargers like EvGo, EA, ChargePoint etc?
Is it even possible? Ideally without having to pay for a 3rd party app like Tessy. I got Home Assistant though

plug in a supercharger and make the car think you're going to one.
It’s that simple? Damn thanks will try it today
Preconditioning isn’t a requirement, just takes longer to charge/might not charge as fast, but it won’t damage the car
Yea I also found that the non Tesla DC fast chargers are quite a bit cheaper in general. Sometimes up to .25¢/kw cheaper.
Preconditioning the battery before going to chargers is possible. You just need to enter the charger’s location in the map or navigation system. If it doesn’t exist and you want to charge quickly, set a nearby one, and the battery will be preconditioned when you arrive at your destination.
It is possible with the sexy buttons, but don’t bother it wont harm the battery. Only takes maybe a few minutes longer to charge. Maybe 2-5 minutes.
This is horrible misinformation! If it’s cold the difference in charge time is dramatic! Stop spreading false information…it’s destroying EVs as people gets disappointed.
Lol .. typical comment from some dude in California . Try charging in -15 in Scandinavia without precondition 😂
Exactly… still they downvote the truth
No it isn't. If it's cold then heating the battery is an option to reach safe levels but the car will do it already for driving.
If you precondition for fast charging the car will heat up the battery up to 45+ °C. That enables faster charging but these are not the healthiest battery temperatures. So charging slower at normal temperatures without precondition will be better for battery life.
Yes it is…it’s extremely misleading information. Downvotes on my comment just illustrate how much misinformation there is regarding EVs. Where olive we have up to 33 Celsius in summer and -20 Celsius in winter…I can assure you the difference is more than 5 minutes starting to charge on a precondition battery versus a non preconditioned battery in the cold…A LOT MORE than 5 minutes more. Read this and educate yourself: https://elbil.no/sa-mye-tregere-gar-det-a-lade-med-et-litt-kaldt-batteri/ And stop being such stubborn pricks just because you don’t know better.
I wrote about normal conditions not your winter scenario which is wildy OT to the original question.
How do you know OP lives in LA? So you’re actually saying you were wrong? Remember YOUR normal condition is YOUR normal condition…not everyone else’s normal condition 😉
Wrong... Heating the battery does not hurt it... It increases it's ability since it's a chemical reaction. You need to educate yourself more before you decide to spread misinformation.
