My Tesla Model Y has had its glass shattered twice and I wasn't notified either time. It did record the incidents. First time was a person who went down the street breaking car windows without stealing anything, and the second time was a person who broke the rear window and stole only my box of facial tissues.

    1. Upstairs_Geologist_1

That sucks and I’m so sorry to hear that.

    2. FluxionFluff

...👀 tissues? What an odd thing to steal from someone's car. 😅 Of all things, they decided on TISSUES?!

      1. AnyIdea321

A runny nose is no joke. 🤧

        1. elthepenguin

Or a runny ass for that matter! 💩

When you gotta go, you gotta go 💩

      3. Shoryukitten_

Break a window then steal tissue so you can’t dry your tears later. Cold blooded.

      4. deepfriedtots

Once had someone steak my empty McDonald's cup

    3. synaesthesisx

      Let me guess, SF

      1. [deleted]

If a hobo made the car their bathroom after, 100% sf. Our break-ins are a special occasion for the entire family.

Was it dirty Mike and the boys?

            Soup kitchen vibes…

          2. Born_Ad_6241

Had a homeless orgy in there.

      2. 1Account8UsersOrMore

The first incident of breaking multiple cars' glass was in San Francisco. The second incident where the facial tissue box was stolen was in some small city or town in Arizona.

      3. LizzoIZmySHERO8

Ok, you and me, are on the same wavelength 🤦🏽‍♀️☺️

      4. [deleted]

Yeah no they break into shit and steal shit here to if you are within 30 minutes of one of the democratic run shitholes.

        1. Born_Ad_6241

    4. Accomplished_Sir965

      Did insurance cover the tissues?

    5. ruffneckc

Damn. Where do you live man?

    6. Brutaka1

      For facial tissues? 🤔

    7. Slayerz00m

      That's so sad...

      Which City?

    8. Electrical-Main-107

      Facial tissues. Really???

    9. Extension-Pension771

Tissues? Dude must think the pandemic is starting again and he gonna run out of tissue

    10. Good-Pipe-Dream

You really shouldn't be leaving valuables in plain sight like that

    11. Mikehawk308

      SF? Sounds like San Francisco

  2. SouthernFrat1848

Make sure you check settings > vehicle > notifications in the Tesla app, and make sure that is turned on

    1. FearsomeShitter

Cool enabled charge complete notification so I can remember to unplug my car at work!

      1. QW1Q

Oh you’re the guy we all work with.

    2. MichaelMeier112

Is there a way to get Sentry notifications from the App?

    3. BB62SWO

Okay, I’m dense because I can’t find the “settings” option in the app for my MY.

      1. BB62SWO

Ha, found it! Not that dense after all :-)

    4. jaredsparks

When I go to settings, it give me the option of "current vehicle only". What is that supposed to mean? What other vehicle would it relate to? Do I accept "current vehicle only" so that I get notifications of a break in?

Sorry for being dumb on this.

      1. imamydesk

What is that supposed to mean? What other vehicle would it relate to?

If you have multiple vehicles under your account you can select one as your "current vehicle".

        1. jaredsparks

OK thanks I figured it was that simple.

  3. chanibus

That’s weird. My Model 3 notified my app when it got bumped in a parking lot one time. Haven’t had something similar happen in my Y (yet) though.

    1. Upstairs_Geologist_1

I definitely was not notified my car was accessed. I had my phone and card key on my person. Sentry mode on. Car locked. No alarm. No notification.

    2. newcar20

unfortunately just happened to my MY, bumped in parking lot and I was notified my car alarm went off. Not sure about windows tho

  4. Brhall001

Make sure notification’s is turned on for car alarm -> in mobile app -> top right click on your picture profile -> settings -> vehicle-> security/car alarm

    1. markn6262

Tesla needs to add a toggle for Sentry Events not just Car Alarm. Want to know if sketchy is creepin around my car BEFORE the break in occurs. Or when a shopping cart impacts thats not enuf to activate the car alarm. I could go on.

      1. petersrq

This, notify us of so we can then view the cameras remotely to see if there are any issues

  5. rwhe83

I’ve had notifications when the alarm is going off. Hell thunder set it off it was so loud!

    1. InstantMartian84

I was at an air show on Saturday. I was getting notifications as the F-22 and the Blue Angels both set my MY alarm off twice each.

  6. OCJeff

Also make sure notifications are immediate. Not scheduled delivery notifications. Had that issue before.

  7. RE4Lyfe

Check your notification settings in the Tesla app. You can actually disable car alarm notifications

    1. Upstairs_Geologist_1

This is great advice. I already had it enabled here but others she be aware of these options in Settings

      1. ElephantWeary463

Your Tesla app might be set for notifications but not the phone.

  8. TurbulentDinner8264

Kinda repeating what others have said, ensure notifications are on for your phone. Also, there was an update some months ago where you can disable sentry sounds, maybe that setting might’ve been toggled on and that’s why it didn’t have a full on blaring alarm.

  9. TerrysClavicle

My tesla notifies me if people are merely standing near it.

    1. [deleted]

Did you get notifications on your phone or when you entered the car and it was on screen ?

  10. wall-E75

Idk I forgot to turn off sentry when I got my tires rotated. Had a lot of video clips and the app told me the car was in an alarm state. There is one clip on my drive I can't seem to delete.

  11. vintagemako

Never had a break in but I've had my alarm go off twice for no reason. Both times I got a notification that my alarm was blaring. Definitely enable all the notifications you can in settings and it should work.

    1. jkcheng122

It could be AC kicking on. My 3’s alarm goes off when I turn on AC remotely while it’s very hot outside.

      1. vintagemako

That's what I think as well. Both times it happened I was parked on a hot driveway with nobody around. Ran outside to find nothing happening, but very grateful for the notification, especially so I could turn it off before neighbors get too annoyed 🤣. Way better than the old days.

  12. psychosynapt1c

Android or iPhone? Androids got all kinds of shitty battery management things that prevents certain apps from sending notifications

Damn. Im in HTX too. Are you north or south?

      Texas barely has sidewalks

    3. MasterCav

      More like San Fran

      1. [deleted]

        Only place I thought of

  14. stephbu

There’s no interior ultrasonic alarm sensors on US models. Alarm will only go off if door or trunk is opened when no authorized key is detected. Sentry is hit or miss, it’s sensitive to some motion but YMMV.

  15. tonyt0906

That’s insane. We got a notification that sentry mode activated an alarm. So I call the wife cuz she’s in the car. I tell her to go outside and inspect car in parking lot. There’s just a large pickup next to her. She doesn’t spot door dings or anything. She makes it home, and I watch the video, the guy in the large pickup backs into a tiny space next to her, no door ding, but gets out and stands literally inches away from driver side rear door area. He then walks off…that set off the alarm.

  16. Current_Speaker_5684

Could be a safety problem meeting your local burglars.

  17. st3alth247

Same with BMW. Don't know why

  18. Peds12

    It does not. Enjoy.

  19. paomplemoose

Only had my alarm go off once. I was notified. I had premium connectivity trial at the time. Does being notified require premium connectivity?

    1. newcar20

no premium required.. find out the hard way - was just recently bumped in a parking lot and was notified.

  20. retlem

    People suck

  21. Dry_Coffee7960

Instead of just the cyber truck, they should make all tesla windows bullet proof.

  22. funnyman4000

I’m going to test this out right now to make sure my alarm goes off and I get a notification.

  23. Miffers

    It should notify the alarm

  24. DrPillSlinger

I think it's motion based. (The car moving) I got an alarm notification after the air force from a speeding truck rocked my car a bit. (Didn't hit my car)

  25. bpearsondc

As if the SAE J1772 adapter charges their phone or crack pipe...

  26. Wasabulu

no it doesn't. I had mine smashed one time 5 months into ownership. Super disappointed. Also sentry didn't capture shit.

  27. lcyberdaddyl

Yes it will notify you when the alarm goes off

  28. 88gabriel

my mother in law was I my Tesla model Y . The car locked and after 5 minutes it started to signal. I received notification and my mother in law said she did not touch anything. I received a notification, thought.

  29. jebidiaGA

Upside is you should had clear video... not sure you necessarily want to confront someone doing that, unless you want a shootout... most important thing is to not leave anything of any value that can be seen from outside... this is the case nearly every time.

  30. BlacksmithOpposite47

Yeah one of my biggest gripes - I literally had a "smart" alarm 25 years ago that could beep my pager with alerts (yes I'm that old)

  31. EmotionDiligent3921

For the sake of your wallet I hope this is a 2021 and under Tesla cuz that double pane window in the 2022+ is expensive AF

    1. Upstairs_Geologist_1

Fortunately it’s a 2020 and I got it replaced at Christian Brothers Automotive for $422 installed. They did a great job. Just need to redo the tint now.

I saw the price for double pane. Shit was $845!

  32. br0kensword

Same thing happened to me, although Sentry mode was disabled. Still shocked there was no alarm, though. Why wouldn't the car itself sound the alarm when it's locked and broken into? Wtf?

  33. Slayerz00m

Could it have been a network issue? If your phone doesn't have good data, the notification might not come through..

Also, was this in San Francisco? Did you have anything visible on front seats? Not blaming you, just trying to get a sense of how bad things are...

  34. MrDERPMcDERP

    User error!

  35. jam_chronixx

Same thing happened to that CyberTruck on stage.

  36. [deleted]

Are you paying for premium data services? Many people that don’t get the notification is because they don’t have the premium data on their vehicle.

  37. Hotshave

Check your settings! It will notify you if you have the right settings enabled.

  38. [deleted]

    Where did this happen? Atlanta?

  39. CommunicationAfter43

Seems like an easy update to make

  40. LawfulnessNeither189

    Ouch, sorry!!!

  41. Medical-Kit

My car never notifies me of anything and I have all the settings turned on in the Tesla app and the settings of my phone.

    1. GlitteringIsopod7515

Ditto! Anyone have any solution? Weird to have a sentry mode that does not notify of breakins🙈
