The design choice was definitely to combine current Tesla with Cybercab/CT, almost like they're transitioning the whole brand into the 'cyber' style.

    1. WrongdoerIll5187

      It’s a bold move cotton

      1. Its-all-downhill-80

Let’s see how it plays out

    2. ishamm

More like they combined Y, roadster and cybercab

    3. 9thArrow

I don't understand why they didn't make the lighbar thicker and continuous like the cybertruck/cab instead of having breaks. Very small, but deal breaking flaw. This wayIt looks like a chinese knockoff

      1. Maverick_1997

I like the light bar on the truck and to me the Model Y looks like a new Hyundai Sonata or a BYD or something. Not a fan of the look. Glad I got a 2024 Model 3.

        1. ClumpOfCheese

The issue I have with both the 3 and Y refresh is that they really just shoved new front and rear end designs onto the car without changing anything else. So you have more sharp edges with the new design while the rest of the body has more of a round froggy vibe. It really does just look like two cars smashed together and seems lazy.

          1. G00G00Daddy

So I'm still in the "meh" stage, but it's growing on me. I actually worked on the F150 in the 90's when Ford went from rectangle to rounded fronts and it was the same thing about just the front changing. It looked HORRIBLE for so long until you got used to it. Then one day it just seemed like it was meant to be. I wonder if this will be the same.

          2. ClumpOfCheese

Yeah people adjust to everything, my complaint is that it’s just a half assed refresh.

          3. edchikel1

So, interior remained the same? 🤣🤣

          4. Maverick_1997

I agree. Like it might be me mentally not liking the front but I think the half new half old works on the Model 3 and the half new half old on the Model Y sticks out a little more. I think it’s because it looks so much sharper yet has an even larger bulbous appearance than the Model 3 and previous Model Y.

          5. LordThurmanMerman

Same. I actually don’t have a problem with the front end, but the rear light bar and how they tried to integrate it into the Highland’s crab claw style taillights looks like an Hanshow mod.

This is a refresh not a redesign. Unfortunately it’s almost exactly what I expected it to be.

      2. puffyjacket85

deal breaking flaw is pretty dramatic

      3. Jaxon9182

I wouldn't call it deal breaking, but I don't understand why it isn't one continuous light bar across, it would look soooooo much better. Very optimistically I think maybe that is something they might change if there is enough feedback about it

      4. 1corn

Overall I like it, but yeah, it's obvious who they've identified as their main competition.

Colors are very dull, though. As often with Tesla.

    4. _father_time

Exactly. The whole lineup is trending towards super futuristic design language.

    5. Balance-

      I hate it.

      Give me more Roadster vibes.

      1. forte-exe

Model 3 looks better and more roadster vibe than the new Y

  2. TheHalfChubPrince

    RIP squircle wheel. Jan 9th 2025 11am - Jan 9th 2025 7pm.

    1. Bangaladore

Quite possible its a NA only release.

      1. New-Monarchy

Nah, that was just a highland photo with a custom wheel installed. This is how it'll look in NA 100%.

        1. sowaffled

Really had the community buzzing about squircle which much mean steer by wire which must also mean 48v architecture.

        2. OSUfan88

          Source: trust me

          1. ryzenguy111

you can see in the new images, the Y has a different style door card with a metal speaker and cloth trim that wasn’t present on the “leak”

          2. Suitable_Switch5242

The photo was definitely a Model 3, not a Model Y. No idea what the US release will have but the same as the rest of the world is a good bet.

      2. Significant_Egg9922

        Still means no drive-by-wire dream.

        1. Bangaladore

Yeah, I don't see why they would make drive-by-wire NA only. Unless it was due to some regulation.

But they do sell Cybertruck outside of NA, so presumably that's not the issue.

        2. jwrig

Don't they need 48v for drive by wire? If so, the refresh wouldn't ever get that.

          1. Bangaladore

I'm not sure why that would be required... No reason they have to reuse Cybertruck parts.

          2. jwrig

That's where their investement is. Telsa's whole mantra is to reuse as much as they can. Hell between the 3 and the Y it is something like 75% cross platform. It is highly unlikely they would redo the Y for 48v and not leverage the architecture they put on the cybertruck. It is why they are able to produce cars more efficently than other us automakers.

So yeah, I guess they could come up with a new architecture for the Y during a refresh, but they wouldn't do it without a ground up refresh.

          3. kalebludlow

75% is a good estimate, the 'official' percentage of shared parts is 76%

          4. Competitive_Sock3956

Did it make you feel nice to compliment condescendingly and then correct by 1%?

I hope it did. You are so great and knowledgeable. I can't find that specific statistic myself but I'm sure you're right and just awesome.

          5. kalebludlow

Uhh you good? Just thought they did a good job at guessing, but you do you, stay outraged 🤙 Edit: found a quick reference to the stat on Wikipedia, which is why I put 'official' in quotes because I didn't vet the reference

    2. Unencrypted_Thoughts

Not sure how I feel about the squircle without steer by wire. I hate the yoke so much but the CT drives like a dream.

  3. RocketRabbit315

the new model 3 is still the sexiest among all model tbh

also that glacier blue idk why it feel a lot like byd dolphin ngl but not other color

    1. Low-Possibility-7060

I think the only Tesla that looks good is the Model S.

    2. soapinmouth

      New roadster is imo

      1. Guygenist

        Talking about real cars

  4. ahhsumpossum

    I see a front bumper camera…

    1. Otto_the_Autopilot

      Yes, that's good.

    2. short_bus_genius

But I don’t see stalks in that interior photo.

      1. babymanteenboy

It has a turn signal stalk! just no drive selector stalk

        1. short_bus_genius

Oooooh. Wisdom of Solomon splitting the baby…

    3. FederalCyclist

It also showed up on first 2024 M3 photos and then got removed.

It is not mentioned in the specification.

      I'm sceptical.

      1. lowspeed

        It is mentioned

  5. bittabet

What is that new badge on there?

  6. descendency

I need to see this in person because the pics here look... like it was a bunch of different ideas mashed into a new car design. I'm not a fan at all. Granted, I'm also not looking to update to a new MY from my 22 MYP.

    1. _f1sh

Agreed, the thin front light bar and the chunky rear light bar dont seem to mesh well imo

    2. farfromelite

The inside looks really bare and cheap. Not sure if I like that at all.

    3. hoffern342

I will wait for the new MYP before I consider a change. My 22 MYP (2023 model delivered in December 22) is an awesome car, and I would not step down to a Long Range if that is what they release first.

However, I am curious how they will differentiate it in the front.. on the Model 3 they have some changes to the bumper, but on the Model Y those aero slots on the sides are present on all configurations. Probably why we do not see such a big range bump (only about 3% increase). I am sure the MYP will get the same changes elsewhere though.. adaptive dampers, new seats etc.

  7. oxyscotty

The front lightbar is fine, but I'm just not a fan of that rear lightbar at all.. I kind of like them on the rivians, however for whatever reason it just looks like a cyclops from the rear on this car.. ugly. It also doesn't help that it feels like they're just copying rivians homework.

    1. godnorazi

Too many other cars doing the light-bar... Rivian, Lucid, Prius, etc that its already looking dated

  8. JohnFlip

Rear looks like the new Prius

    1. mkd87

      It’s so ugly

      1. Low-Possibility-7060

I think the front is even worse but also looks like a Prius.

    2. godnorazi

I'm getting budget Lucid Air vibes

    3. WillingParticular659

i think it looks like the ioniq

      1. rustybeancake

        Kona to me

  9. TigglyWiggly95

Looks alot better than the leaks to me

    1. adeadfetus

    2. mistsoalar

I think official photos are almost always so. Regardless of the brand/model.

  10. Euro_Snob

Once you see how the rear light bar (with black surround) looks like an Aztec, it is hard to unsee. (The top pic is a Prius)

    1. Low-Possibility-7060

Yep. Model Y never looked good but this new one is really ugly.

    2. matt11126

Don't forget that it also looks like a Dodge hornet and Nissan Aryia. It's as if the Pontiac Aztec, dodge hornet and the Nissan Aryia had somehow given birth to the new MY, and to be fair in my opinion that's not the family you want to be a part of.

  11. LegitPhoton

The lights beneath the door, puddle lights? I like it.

    1. gymcccc

Seems like it’s a limited edition add on. Matches the badge on the back

      1. Iremain8924

It’s the “Launch” edition that comes with acceleration boost

  12. parental92

Looks like Ai generated Porsche Macan

  13. IntelligentCompany83

holy moly a front bumper camera

  14. KamilKiri

Will there be performance version of it?

  15. fanzakh

Front is Chevy Equinox and rear is toyota/lexus like a hybrid of RZ and new prius. Will have to see the real thing but not too excited about it.

    1. Total-Confusion-9198

Most likely that’s the demographics they are targeting

  16. EricFSP

    I like that launch badge

  17. Shaper_pmp

It doesn't look as bad as the earlier low-res leaks made it look, but it's still not great.

Tesla had a great curved, sleek-looking design language even for larger cars like the Model X that made them look smaller than they were outside and surprisingly spacious inside.

This looks like they're trying to Cybertruck-ify their future designs, but while the CT was a bold (and arguably not unattractive) move, I don't think it's a good look for the future of Tesla, or that it marries well with their existing look the way they're trying to here.

  18. rkraptor70

    Looks weirdly Chinese.

  19. xMETRIIK

Way better than current Model Y. They always seemed a little deformed. This one is more refined. It would look better if the front light bar was solid and thicker like cybertruck though.

    1. ducks2024

It's decent but not "I need one right now" kind of redesign.

  20. DyZ814

    Shit looks like an Ioniq

  21. Chrome_Denim3367

    Sleeeeeeek. And sharp.

  22. bike_tyson

    I love it. I think it’s beautiful

  23. SlteFool

    I like

  24. KHT6789

The back is 🔥, the front will grown on me I’m sure lol but I’m enjoying my ‘22 for now.

    1. short_bus_genius

Hah, I have the opposite thinking. I think the front looks better than the rear.

  25. Mrrobotico0

It’s a yawn. I wasn’t expecting anything super different but meh.

  26. lazylittleboy

    That’s a nice looking Xpeng G6

  27. Tesla_RoxboroNC

Damn... about time. Looks so good. i may trade my 2023 M3P in.

  28. Yummy_Mushroom6688

  31. cest_va_bien

Definitely a step back in most places and it’s crazy they don’t make a bigger version.

  32. mjezzi

They should have updated the door handles look too. It doesn’t fit well anymore.

  33. viz_tastic

Go to the Tesla China site and you’ll see more.

    Looks amazing!!!! Industry best.

  34. ARCHA1C

Kinda bummed that the new design looks so utilitarian, doing away with any of the “sleek” or “graceful” lines the previous design had up front.

But the rear is very ugly IMO.

Very reminiscent of recent Buick/Cadillac/Dodge models.

  35. _CptFoxy_

At least the headlights aren’t ugly

  36. W-001

Here is the one which will replace my 22 MY.

  37. No_Ambition6329

Highland updates would have looked much better, this is an abomination.

  38. nasa2320

Front is fugly. Rear and side look great, however. Any chance they'll correct the front before US debut? Ugh..

  39. fractal_disarray

Looks pretty good. Now get rid of the glass roof and make a full hard top.

  40. oliphant428

    Where did “Opal” come from?

  41. mjezzi

I’m sure all the upgrades are awesome, but looks wise, I’m happy with my current Y.

  42. DelosHost

Why oh why Tesla insists on these light headliners? At least on the Performance models it should be black.

  43. sanctimoniousfsck

Where are the actual headlights? Looks like they are in the lower housing? A la Cybertruck?

  44. n05h

Is the first picture a new colour?

  45. Europe_Dude

It has the same front bumper intake things as the Highland M3P, I wonder if those are only temporary for the launch edition and will be afterwards exclusive to the future MYP.

  46. redfoxhound503

I really like the front bumper air vent below the lights. I hope they make it functional like the previous model.

  47. Csemike15

    Reminds me of a Hyundai

  48. short_bus_genius

Wonder if there is an option to make the front light bar swoosh back and forth like KITT in knight rider?

    Wong wong

  49. TimTom8321

I always feel that it's better to have either a front light bar or a back one.

Having both seems a bit cheap imo, idk why, while one of them makes it feel more futuristic.

Though this rear view just feels...plain, idk. Seems a bit like there's not enough details, and way too many lines with no turns or even breaks maybe.

Prefer the model 3's new rear by a lot for now.

  50. grim-432

Waiting for a plaid or ludicrous variant….

  51. ridlerontheroof

I’m not a fan of the front end and its light bar, but think the way they designed the rear light bar is interesting in the way that it projects down onto the truck vs outward. Kinda cool that it illuminates the TESLA logo.

  52. arbitraryhubris

That lighter metal blue is not available using the USA configurator. Of course I want it.

    1. Groundbreaking_Box75

USA configurator? It’s not out in the US, you must be looking at the current MY for North America

  53. matt11126

Reminds me a little too much of the dodge hornet and a Nissan Aryia. The interior is very nice though, the exterior ? Not so much, the round body doesn't really work for the light bars. It would have to be more boxy to look better.

  54. Voidfaller

Why does this give me a slight resemblance to the Kia ev6 nose almost kind of… not a direct match of course… but I can’t unsee it now! Aggghhh 😭

  55. SoonerMockingbird

The rear looks like a Toyota

  56. 23_KFJ

Dumb question but do we know when they'll release it to the European market?

  57. omniblastomni

Are the lights going to be an issue in snow? I’ve seen some issues with people and their cyber truck where their lights are blocked by the falling snow that has settled on the bumper. I hope this isn’t the case. I like the overall design and aesthetic of the vehicle.

  58. dynamite647

I see a front facing camera

  59. octobergod31

    🐏

  60. anauditorNTX

Nice update! Won’t be getting one though. I plan on holding on to our current one until Elon relinquishes control of the Company.

  61. lucasPAD

Wait, am I the only one who noticed the exorbitant cost of the car? 85k+? Are you serious?

  62. finalzero00

Puddle lights...yet on my 2022 Model S I still can't find them, not even aftermarket

  63. Toastybunzz

It looks good, somehow more balanced than the old design even though the overall shape is the same.

  64. gaggzi

Looks like any random Chinese EV

  65. acj21

Surprised they are going BACK to the helix style wheels. They feel outdated.

  66. FreezaSama

Looks kinda cheap... maybe it's way better in person!

  67. Aklagarn

Looks like any generic China car

  68. moonisflat

Looks like every other EV out there, with the light bar.

  69. ducks2024

Without seeing it in person yet, no way I trade in my 2024 MYP I paid 42K for (0.9%). Will be really hard to beat.

  70. cadium

  71. Dr_Pepper1984

I’d buy it if I needed a new car, like the quicksilver and white paint jobs the best with the silver rims

  72. moxifloxacin

Are the headlights and bar slightly recessed like the CT? because that's a terrible decision for anyplace with snow.

  73. JrNichols5

Glad I got my Model Y instead of waiting for…this.

  74. Heimuer

the light bar is getting hideous by now

  75. HERO1NFATHER

Lol idk why people thought stalks would come back 😂

  76. itsfirat

Who else thinks this looks awful?

  77. whykae

NGL, I love it. I'm going to get one.

  78. bareyb

Front and rear lights look better, the rest looks about the same.

  79. AngleWise8019

  83. blueridgeblah

This is like the design trends on HGTV, all cars are starting to look the same… still going to order one in glacier blue 😂

  84. forte-exe

Is the badge for a performance model that is not yet on sale?

  85. handsebe

Looks nice. Now they just need to open up for black interior roof.

  86. forte-exe

What is the badge? For performance model not sold? What is it called?

  87. Turbo0021

    Ugly

  88. mileshere

Wish they could have shrunk this huge center console especially by the knees. The center console by the knees should ideally be at least flush with the seat or below the seat to allow for knees to extend over the center console instead of of smashing against the hard plastic. It's not as bad as some car companies but it's still too large if you have longer legs like myself.

  89. Competitive_Sock3956

I don't like the changes, seems derivative of other brands but I will likely still try one.

I'm put off a bit by the reports of safety being less of a concern and the crash testing results. It's very unlikely a collision occurs but I, and maybe I'm paranoid, want the safest vehicle for my family.
