Posts tagged with Tesla How to Check Odometer

Had my MY for 6 months and just realized my odometer seems off than what it should be. I was driving gas before and my commute is 80km per day, plus personal use, I put 35k on that car. Than I got my Tesla and also switch my job location, which my commute is only 20km per day, personal use should be roughly the same. I have only had my Tesla for 6 month and odometer is showing 19k, which would be 38k for a whole year, in fact that I am driving significantly less everyday. And I saw lots of posts on Reddit with the same issue, but it seems no solution yet. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Noob question here, but I'm looking at getting a used Model Y, and I want to know how I can check the estimated range of the car. I know the estimated range is 330 for a new one, but is there a way to check the estimated range of a used one to check any potential battery degradation?

Took delivery of my 2023 M3 on the 12th of December, I love the car and everything about it. However, when I checked the mileage it seemed a bit higher than what I thought I’d driven. For context, I wfh and only really drive 20/30 miles a week for errands. I accounted for the extra miles driven for the holiday festivites etc and I’ve had to make a couple airport runs which are about 30 miles each way, but it still doesn’t add up.

I also switched my insurance the day I took delivery and got progressive snapshot which tracks your miles and driving. When I compared my odometer to the mileage count in the snapshot app there is almost 50 mile difference. I expected maybe a few miles (>10) but not 50.

I put in a service request in the Tesla App and they gave me this message which doesn’t make sense because a mile is a mile whether it’s hot or cold or however I drive the car.

My concern is because I have a lease 10k/36 months, when I calculate my driving it’s plenty of miles as my last car didn’t even get to 28k miles and is just shy of 4 years old. However I’m worried now if the M3 keeps on like this. Anyone ever experienced this?

With all the recent attention Tesla has received regarding their range and ensuing discussions, it’s apparent there’s a lack of awareness regarding how range is displayed in a Tesla, and quite a lot of misinformation around what range information is provided in a Tesla. So I wanted to try and share some information on this topic.

The battery icon at the top of the central screen provides the car’s state of charge; Tesla allows drivers to toggle (by touching the battery icon) between displaying state of charge as either a percentage or miles. This is similar to the battery icon on a laptop, which can display the battery charge remaining either as a percentage or time. This icon in a Tesla is akin to the fuel gauge in an ICE car; it not the car’s trip range information.

As is accessed in typical ICE cars, the range information is contained within the car’s trip information section; this is similar for Teslas. To access this information, users must go to the Energy App, and then tap the Consumption tab. This provides the car’s instant or average range, as selected by the driver, based on the last 5,15, or 30 miles driven.

Happy to answer questions people might have about this topic in an effort to help increase awareness of how range in Teslas really operates.
