On the app click unlatch door icon. It will open the driver side door. It happened to me yesterday here in NJ after snowfall and frigid temperatures. Also preconditioning the car to 78 degrees helps lol

Couldn’t find that magic icon in the app-:(. Where is it hidden?

Go to the app and hold down on whatever quick icon are defaulted which are above the controls menu like the fan icon long press it and you will get more icons to swap out and you can even add a 5th. I was frozen yesterday too and the unlatch door didn’t work because my window didn’t roll down so I had to turn on defrost first for about 15 mins and then I had to use this unlatch door to get in!

          Found it. Thank you

Same happened to me but i was scared because window glass wasn’t rolling up while closing

It doesn't roll up all the way in freezing conditions to prevent the windows from freezing shut. They will still keep the rain out and it confused me at first too.

Oh wow… did you defrost at all?

    Open with the App?

    1. OwlLongjumping888

App only opens trunk and frunk . It also unlocks doors, but doesn’t open doors

      1. mflexx

No. There is literally an option exactly for this purpose.

Haha, the old “RTFM” wins again

Yup. Defrost the car but I doubt that will help with the exterior warming up (it might though). Also, gently hit the upper part of the door handles so the ice cracks. That's what I do and that's what Tesla recommends as well. Then you can pull the door handles to open the door.

The latch also goes both ways. If you push on the opposite side it'll pop out the other side just a tad and that might break any ice that's formed.

Why only 68 degrees? Why not defrost if it’s that cold?

A shitty feature on a shitty car made by a shitty human.

      Sadly yes

Spray some WD-40 white lithium grease around the space between the door handle and door panel. This will create a hydrophobic layer, which I recommend because it won’t damage your paint when you decide to clean it off.

I am finding that the unlatch door feature from the app doesn't even let me open it. Like it pops out, but I'm still not able to get the door open. I gently tapped at the handles to eventually get the handle to open.

Ball up your fist and just hit the door handles on all 4 doors. The ice will break up and open easy for you next attempt to open. Just give it a little bit of a hit with the side of your fist.

    1. OwlLongjumping888

Thanks all. Unlatch in the app and defrost are working for me.

      1. chanibus

Nice. The latch only works for drivers. The fist will work for the other doors. I had to do it this morning for the front passenger and rear passenger doors. Glad you got squared away.

        1. sjeqi

Tessie will do this for the other doors

          1. chanibus

nice, that's a good feature for sure

          2. sjeqi

Works w their watch app too
