      Suggestions on which mats?

      1. NotAWeird0

        Love my maxpider 3D

        1. Teh_Diver

+1. Little pricey but worth the investment.

        2. Groundbreaking_Cat_9

I bought some knock off versions of these. Very nice mats.

      2. Pharmy_Dude27

Tux mats! They protect way more

        1. Fordari

Love mine, but fitment was lacking. And the Velcro clips… well, the heat deemed those useless.

      3. EggyFresh216

I never understand how no one recommends the Tesla brand all weather floor mats. I bought them all and thought Tesla was the best by far.

    2. illuminati1556

Meh. I got cheap ass floor mats from Amazon and they're great. Perfect snug fit. Thick and durable. Clean.

    3. JSuarezXX

I just got my Tasmanian mats on Friday and I love them, they look very OEM with no sort of company badge or emblems on the mats.

  2. homertool

adjust the trunk height so it doesn’t hit the garage ceiling

    1. markbraggs

This needs to stay at the top. Day 2 I opened the trunk into the garage door and it left a black mark. Thought for sure it was dented but thankfully it wiped off.

For those who don’t know about it when opening the trunk you can manually/forcefully stop it and bring it to your desired height. Once it's where you want it press and hold the trunk button until it beeps to set a new memory height.

      1. MikeyLyon99

Thank you thank you thank you!

    2. DaveWpgC

Second thing I did... repeatedly bang my head on the adjusted trunk height.

    3. mattwb72

Unfortunately this was not the first thing I did. 😩

    4. Matrixfx187

Day 1 I chipped my trunk because of this...

      Edit: trunk, not truck...

      1. Ground-puba_2748-

R u calling the model y a truck? Is this acceptable? I used to call my Mercedes ml320 a truck, I think technically it was a light truck

    5. hautdoge

First, I opened the trunk in the garage and got a huge scratch. 2nd, I adjusted the height ;)

    6. illlojik

Literally the first thing I did when doing my check over. Thanks to the failu… uhm… Warnings of my fellow redditors, I took that precaution very seriously.

    7. Nixterzfanz

      This. lol

    8. williamBackdale

      This!

    9. JackDenial

Not the first thing I did and scratched trunk lid first week of ownership. Thankfully my first accessory purchase was a replica carbon spoiler which covered it up nicely!

    10. ThreeTwoOneQueef

      OK DAD

  3. mattwb72

    Test that 0-60.

    1. just_killing_time23

12 mile ride home... floored it easily 20 times!

  4. wongl888

Fit mud flap and wheel arch PPF.

    1. golfer2000

      What brands do you recommend?

      1. BeardedJebediah

Haloblk mud flaps. They also have a good dual panel roof shade if you need one. Both on Amazon.

  5. jacqueusi

    Discount Tire tire insurance.

    1. [deleted]

I have a discount tire like 4 miles from my house never used em though since I haven’t had to replace tires yet but probably will need to eventually.

What’s the benefit of using them?

      1. JohnnyPee89

They are knowledgeable with Teslas and carry Tesla tire sizes in stock at great prices compared to the competition. Plus they are great about mounting new tires without scratching your wheels, in my experience, which means a lot to me. They'll fill your tires with air for free just pull into the air lane, and they'll take care of the rest. Great customer service with very professional staff.

        1. jacqueusi

They also retorqued our tires to spec prior to our trip.

      2. jacqueusi

Was $260 for tire insurance. One flat would cover the $260 and then some. We covered 5,500 miles on a cross country 14 day trip and with all the DT on the route it was peace of mind.

        1. bumble_bee21fb

How long does the tire insurance last for? Is it like 30k miles or 2 years whichever comes first?

          1. jacqueusi

            HOW DOES THE CERTIFICATE WORK?

If a tire covered by the Certificate for Repair, Refund or Replacement fails due to a non repairable road hazard or manufacturer defect, has 3/32" and above of tread depth remaining across the tire, and it has been less than 3 years from date of purchase, Discount Tire will give a refund of the full purchase price, together with the applicable sales tax and give you the option to purchase a replacement tire at the refund price, with the payment of any applicable sales tax. There is no prorating, no disqualification for any reason such as run-on damage and no mileage adjustment. It is the very best tire certificate program we know of.

            https://www.discounttire.com/customer-service/certificates

      3. [deleted]

It’s basically just tire insurance in case you get a flat or blow out that can’t be repaired.

Separately they provide free rotation and balancing services. You don’t have to buy their insurance or tires from them for this service.

  6. GataPapa

First week: configured phone as key, set hatch opening height, tested L2 and Supercharging, configured myQ garage door opener connection, floor liners installed, installed larger flash drive for Sentry video recording, installed splash guards, installed rear wheel arch leading edge PPF myself, had a professional install front bumper PPF (learned that on my Model 3), washed and waxed it, picked up a mobile charging kit and the tire pump (tested both).

Couple other odds and ends over time: frunk organizer, rear side storage compartment covers and waterproof inserts, cup holder insert, Premium connectivity and myQ subscriptions after trials ended.

Going to install a Draw-Tite hitch soon.

  7. sherlocknoir

    Drive it. Seriously.

Purposely bought mine in Chicago so I could immediately drive it about 900 miles home to the East Coast. This allowed me plenty of 1-on-1 time to get use to how much real world range it has and learn the best techniques for Supercharging/charging curve to help speed up a long trip.

    1. AnirudhRajah

Yes this is definitely the first thing I’ll do, need to get used to single peddle driving.

      1. Sentient-Exocomp

        You’ll probably have that down

  8. goldencurvature

Window tint. Every window you can legally.

  9. Teh_Diver

Watch one million Tesla YouTube Videos. You will be surprised how little you know about this car. I have it for three weeks and I am still finding new things every now and then. 😁

    1. Brian1961Silver

The gift that keeps on giving.

  10. The_Noob_Idiot

Read the manual, watch tutorial videos and DRIVE.

  11. Green-Head5354

If you’ve got kids put on floor vent covers so nothing falls in there. 15 bucks on Amazon.

  12. Thelife1313

Bought a shit ton of accessories

  13. [deleted]

    Beat my meat in it

    1. reginaldregal

Did you cover the interior camera?

      1. dnldcs

I thought you were supposed to stare directly at the camera and chant Elon musk while beating your meat.

        1. BenGhazino

Ive heard this unlocks an easter egg

      2. TheBurtReynold

Covered it with the fruits of his labor

    2. ThreeTwoOneQueef

Bonus if you can do that in the third row without hitting your funny bone.

  14. TheMrBart

My list below of just the essentials IMO.

    Adjust trunk height

Mudflaps (this was important in mass with roads and salt in winter)

    Matte finish screen protector.

FLOOR AIR VENT COVERS!! There are giant open vents in floor under the front seats. I recommend the velcro mesh covers. If something falls into that gap, such as some change, you will enjoy a nice rattle and frustrating service appt.

  15. DaveWpgC

First I drove home 350 kms from Surrey BC. The next day I had an appointment to get PPF & ceramic done on the exterior. Then put on mud flaps, roof rack, removed stupid hitch cover & replaced with magnetic cover, put in Tuxmats, installed matte tablet screen protector, attached front license via Quick Bandit, drove around neighborhood & showed off to no one in particular.

  16. Justifiers

for a "22 M3 these are the things I did on delivery, some may not apply for the MY:

    screen protector for the infotainment

heavy duty full coverage liners and mat set for the entire car, trunk frunk

aftermarket door vinyl for the door handle/hand rest areas. Crap they use peels off so easy it's not funny

    custom seat protectors

for the M3, seatbelt extenders for the rear side-seats

aftermarket windsealing strip kit for all doors, the trunks, and roof

    mud flaps

low profile deer whistles (placed under mirrors and inside tire rims, opposing each other, facing into the direction of movement when moving forward)

    window tint

hydrologic frunk mod so it opens and closes automatically

check cabin filters for damage, mine were from the manufacturer (found out a year later when replacing with aftermarkets)

    ceramic coating

Buy (2) paint kits from Tesla as soon as you order the car so you're as likely as possible to have an exact color match as possible when it needs repair

    1. Justifiers

Oh, and rim protectors, especially if you got anything buy the 18" wheels, but even then you should still consider them

These cars are curb rash royalty

  17. realkamikaze

    Set up easy entry

    1. soneg

      What exactly is easy entry

      1. Chance_Composer_6125

Steering wheel moves up/ away, seat backs up, to allow easier getting in and out of the car. Really useful for me, at least.

  18. TSR_Kurt

Got used to the charging network and charge apps, drove it on four trips, then bought: extensions cords, AC/DC inverter, tent attaching to MY, mattress that fits MY (Lost Horizon), window and windshield covers, all weather floor mats, roof rack, console trays, storage boxes to fit sub-trunk.

That was the first month. Let’s see how the second month goes 😉

  19. Carmel_Cobra

Drive the shit out of it. Would you put PPF on a Camry? The fun learning curve of always doing the math from electric to understand your gas savings has been a fun hobby

  20. Joostey

Run through all the settings to setup your drivers profile. (Seats, mirrors)

Read through the autopilot section very thoroughly. Play around with the menu, listen to the music and setup your sound.

Sign up for premium connectivity for the year $99.

Things to buy before delivery, all weather mats, those center console organizers are pretty nice to have.

If you live in a hot area, sunshade and tint appointment setup for the best tint they offer.

A good ceramic coating if you’re able to DIY.

  21. flapiphone

I washed my MY so I could get up close to inspect the paint finish and build. I feel like you don’t really know your car until you are inches from every square inch of it.

  22. mdifm

Do you enjoy driving? If so, GO DRIVE. It is great to find some quiet roads and just enjoy the peacefulness of an all electric car.

  23. Wulf_Star_Strider

Set the opening height on the trunk so it wont hit the garage door that is overhead.

  24. kimchichii

Buy a bunch of accessories. First being all weather mats.

  25. Pale_Candidate_390

Bought a screen for behind the wheel that gives me Apple CarPlay

  26. NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

Model 3 LR but the first thing I did was set up a Nema 14-50 outlet so I can get 220V charging

  27. [deleted]

Almost forgot, went through all the horn sounds.

  28. Remote-Jackfruit3570

Drive it and get used to one pedal braking.

  29. AmeriChino

    Read the manual!!!

Drive in stop and go traffic for at least 30 minutes to get your muscle memory tuned for single-pedal driving.

If you have a garage, learn to plug it in every time you come home so you will never have to think about range. Depends on how much you drive, you should consider installing a level-2 charger at home.

  30. MexicanSniperXI

Read the manual! You don’t have to read the whole thing but just look for the section you think you may have questions on.

Get a charger set up at home if you can.

Like others have said, some all weather mats.

Give it a couple of months for all updates to catch up.

You’ll get used to one pedal driving in a day or so.

Ask if you can still use a referral code if you didn’t. $500 off and 3 months of FSD for free. Congrats on the car, you’re gonna love it!

  31. Welfi1988

    Drive home

  32. Wasabulu

Tint. Lots of tint. Windshield (70%, 35% fronts, 70% rear passenger and trunk. As well as roof). This will make the car cabin much easier to cool/heat thereby saving range. The comfort will also be much better. Absolutely essential.

  33. hyp36rmax

Clean out our garage to park two cars Buy some Rays Volk TE37 Wheels Buy Ohlins R&T Coilovers Suspension Buy some Brembo 6Pot Front Big Brake Kit All within the first month, less than 1000 Miles :)

  34. anthonyjh21

Buy all weather mats to protect the floors from three young and messy kids. Best investment you could make.

Second was to buy a headrest cushion.

Third was sunroof cover w/ silver.

  35. consistentlyPUSHING

Acknowledge you have no self respect and embrace the dweeb lifestyle

  36. hydrastix

    RTFM

    Read the F*cking Manual.

You'd be surprised how many questions people ask here on a daily basis that wouldn't have needed to be asked if they read the manual. Seriously, this isn't a toaster, coffee machine or your run-of-the-mill vehicle.

  37. Prius-Driver

Installed a new 240volt line out to the garage and set time parameters for charging to 10p-6a. $3 for a full charge overnight vs $17 during the day for the win.

  38. shingaridavesh

    My suggestion is as follows

Matte screen protector (Spigen on Amazon)

Floor Mats (Taptes from Amazon, looks like

    MaxSpider and great reviews)

Mud Flaps (Basenor from Amazon for great)

    Optional but great:

PPF for front (I know it is expensive but maybe worth it depending on where you live)

Windshield shade (if live in hot area)

Sunroof shade (if live in hot area)

Console organizer (I think they are necessary, maybe not within first week but definitely needed)

Roof sunshade (if live in hot area)

  39. WesternResearcher376

I was more worried about checking if all adaptors were included, the battery level, and how to correctly close the frunk. And the obvious: record card/phone Key, adjust all preferences and save my profile. And I literally had to run to a bathroom when I got home. I was very uncomfortable driving it for the first time. But after a few days, it’s second nature.

  40. gordy06

Before l ordered: I watched a lot of videos and read posts and reviews on pros and cons to see if it was for me. It was.

After placed order: Watched more videos on what to expect and what accessories to get. Ordered wall charger from Best Buy and had installed. Ordered accessories, including mobile charger, all weather floor mats, storage trays, wheel covers, tire repair kit, emergency kit.

After picked up: Made sure app was set up okay. Set driver profile for myself and wife, including seats and mirrors. Set home and work destinations in maps. Put accessories in. Set up Apple Music. Went through all settings to make sure what I wanted. And obviously - had fun driving.

  41. PVStrike

Hitched a UHaul trailer and hauled 1,300 lbs from Sacramento to Irvine. Made it from Tejon, up over the Grape Vine and to Irvine with no stops and 25% remaining charge. That was actually the first thing I did.

  42. KarjnL0v3

Put my old car for sale 👍

  43. ReSearch_842

Bought Tesmanian mats (coz I got a good deal at the time) and cup holders (some cheap ass knock-off) Cleaned my garage to make space for the beauty Put my old car up for an estimate on carmax

Definitely +1 on setting trunk height.. Reddit was my savior!

  44. Mindless_Pineapple46

Road Trip!!!! Take that baby for a good long drive. Wife and I took our M3 when we first got it. Then did the same when we upgraded to a MY. Marriott is really good about showing which hotels have free charging. We also use the PlugShare app to get more info/pictures/feedback on chargers.

  45. TJayClark

I put windshield cleaning supplies in the frunk.

When I drove 6 hours home from St. Louis in the summer. My windshield was covered in dead bugs. Auto windshield wipers thought it was raining because the bugs were so bad.

  46. Gmh88E4TQK1d

Waited 61 days for it to actually be delivered, because it was early 2022.

  47. IllHaveAnother37

    Drive to Disney World!

  57. Cultural_Willow_265

    OK, long list:

In my first three months...blacked out Tesla badges (my MYLR is red), rear mats, 7" rear screen, red caliber covers, new wheel covers, rear spoiler (I know, I'm faking a MYP), automatic frunk lift (this I really love), 5.6" steering column instrument panel, rear emergency door release straps, clear ceramic tint on roof and hatch glass, front widows tinted, frunk well light, Knight Rider rear light, and last but not least (expense wise)...lighted automatic pop-out door handles (especially great at night).

Phew, I think thats it ;)

    1. [deleted]

      Why fake a Performance

    2. AnirudhRajah

Any links? Especially for the automatic frunk lift and the rear spoiler?

    3. westside126

Got a link for the blacked out badges?

  58. MonforReal

Ordered a bunch of accessories on Amazon and got quotes for installing a charger in my garage.

  59. AShoweringGorilla

They sell a charging hub on Amazon for like $30 and it integrates into the car perfectly. Charges 10x faster than the wireless charging mats

  60. J-Crosby

Changed the mats in Tesla lot, adjusted trunk height in Tesla lot. Got it home and went to tinter to tint windows and windshield. Bought new caps, bought bars for rear seat into back.

  80. Lsutiger1977

Good floor mats and center console inserts.

  81. [deleted]

Window Tint because all the posts said it’d make the interior cooler

    It didn’t

PPF because all the posts said Tesla paint is trash

Hopefully I’ll never confirm or deny this

  82. Yzracer357

After reading 49,900 negative comments about the paint and clear coat durability

First thing I did was PPF
