Hey everyone, I’m new to the EV community and I’m overly excited!! I got the Model Y RWD, please share any tips and tricks, much appreciated!! Happy Holidays Everyone !!
Get a sliding tray for the first storage compartiment, get a cup holder insert to keep drinks steady, get a velcro trunk/boot and back of rear seats cover if you actually use the trunk and or fold down the seats often for storage (this is honestly the best buy I made for the car).
The rest is all for fun, check all the settings. Set up driving profiles including an easy entry one, maybe one to work with a laptop behind the wheel and one to lie down and take a nap.
Find all the hidden tricks in the software for example setting wiper or fan speed with stalk button and/or scrolling wheel. There are many hidden but intuitive functions. Those scrolling wheels can do A LOT!
Don't bother with all the ppf stuff costing thousands of euros and stuff or touchless carwash, I think it's all a bit ridiculous. Just use it like any other car. A good car-wash is no problem at all for your paint.
Have fun with it! It's a blast!
EDIT: also premium connectivity. €10/month is definitely worth it for me.
A touch carwash is absolutely bad for your paint.
I been using only power washing touchless blasting method to wash our MYLR. This is the way!
On a microscopic level maybe. In reality you're not going to see any swirl marks or scratches caused by it at all. I've went through a (good!) touch car-wash every 2 weeks for a year now and even under direct artificial light you don't see any scratches/swirls. I have a white model y though.
Rock chips from driving shitty roads, that you'll get. But then again, it's... a car.
I guarantee anyone with a good eye could see the swirl marks from 5 feet away in the right light. Doesn’t show as easily on white paint, but that doesn’t mean the swirl marks aren’t there.
Totally agree on ppf, wraps, and gentle touch washes. For some reason, the tesla owners more prone to this. It’s not a car show piece but just a good reliable car which costs no more nowadays than an average suv. $6500 wrap makes no difference for resale value or even for real scratch protection. If anything, $15 ceramic wax spray application will make it a bit shinier and watching water drops on it more satisfying.
Any links?
If you mean for the accessories, sure!
For the boot/rear of back seat liner (I'm extremely happy I bought this since I often put ladders and working material in the back that would definitely have destroyed the lining by now if I didn't install it in the beginning): https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B093BDJYWT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&th=1
Have one for the frunk too: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B09JCBGRVB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Drink holder: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08C9WL8G8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1

If you mean for the settings/hidden features, there's honestly so much I don't even know where to start, but happy to help if you encounter a problem. The Tesla manual is very well done, it probably covers most of it in detail.
I have this one and like it a lot. I find the ones without the flocking slide easier. Also recommend a cup holder insert for the front seat cupholders to hold drinks in place better.
First and foremost, do not put gasoline in your car. That spot is now an area for a charging cable
Sir this is a Wendy’s
It always amuses me seeing an EV in a petrol station "aww he thinks he's an ice carrr"
I have a few 5 gallon gas cans I have to fill up every now and then for my riding lawn mower. When I take them in my Tesla to the gas station, it's always very awkward
Touch the battery mile number to change it to percentage. Less stress.
Idk, I’m thinking of changing it back. I’m used to charging my phone to 100%, so have the Tesla sit at 80% to 40%, makes me nervous. However, when my gas car was at 150 miles out of 350, I was A okay, since I knew I had atleast another 100 miles before I needed to gas it up, ya know?
The problem is the miles left can be difficult to predict. If it says 100 miles left, is that 100 miles going 55mph on the freeway? Or 70? Is that with or without ac? What if it's cold out or hot out?
On the flip side, 50% is always 50%
Fair point. % is definitely more accurate.
When I had a gas car, I could go about 340 miles, I would refill it when it fell under 100 miles. Similarly, the MYP goes a theoretical 300 miles. So if I charged it under 100 miles, I should be safe?
But with %, digital devices have trained us to be at 100% every night, so feels weird to leave it half charged.
If it's at 50% and you start highway driving at 70mph, isn't the higher speeds gonna eat up the % faster the same way the miles left will drop if you kept that setting?
Either way, end result is the same, more of a preference thing imo.
no, because I don't "refill when i hit 100 miles" especially in a LFP car, I run the battery as low as i need to run it or as low as i can run it and charge every possible chance whether that means charging it from 90% to 100% at home or waiting until 10% or less to stop at a supercharger to get the most efficient charge rates.
It's nothing like that, except for the part of keeping in your head "i wouldn't freak out too much if i had 1/4 tank of gas right now" ... on a road trip your goal should be to get to a supercharger "running on fumes" ... if you're not on a road trip you should just have the mindset to "charge it up as much as possible and leave it plugged in wherever i park at if it is possible"
So it depends, you should fill up a 7/8 tank if you're already pulling over and can easily plug in. You should top off if you're on the road...and not fill up all the way usually.. charge enough to get to the next good supercharger, in car nav does this pretty damn welll.
Did you mean to respond to my comment? Or are you responding to someone else?
I can't believe there was a time when this wasn't a feature
Always carry the key card with you. Just in case. Enjoy the car. Don’t listen to the hater on the white seats. Mines 4 years old and still looks new. Mild interior cleaner is all you need.
Baby wipes does a great job too
Always curious about the white seats and how hard they are to keep clean. I think I could manage but my girlfriend would have coffee spilled on them 10 seconds after I signed the papers lol
Coffee spills are no problem, it wipes up very well. I have white seats with 3 kids. Scariest mishap to happen was a messy bloody nose and it all came off. The seats are stain resistant and the good thing about them being white you can see if something is on them and then you just need to wipe them down. Whereas dark interior the stain can easily go unnoticed and it will set and become impossible to get out. I carry a small spray bottle (water and couple drops of dawn dish soap in it) and a small microfiber towel and wipe up spills as soon as I can.
You don't need the key card if your phone has NFC, which is nearly all phones. Just place the phone on the pillar to open.
I believe OP means just in case your phone runs out of battery which can happen (it has happened to me) in that case you will need your key card and there is zero problem of having it in your wallet just in case.
Yeah, keycard also for valet and hand-washers and oil changes 😉!
Learn to wash car yourself, turn on autocancel if it's not on already super useful, keep either wipes or microfiber towel and dedicated interior cleaner, get weather mats makes cleaning very easy, get a matte screen protector this is optional but it's very nice and attracts less finger prints, ppf is optional and tbh not too recommended as on a white car it'll yellow out, pair phone with car, get a nema 14-50 outlet installed and buy the adapter for it, get nano ceramic tint (!) Very good buy for the car and will reduce heat a bunch during the summer
Check under that paper, mine was missing the driver floor mat
base model doesn't come with mats
The Y does. Maybe you should check that paper mat if you still have it sitting there lol
Add the home and work address. When you're home, a quick swipe down from the navigation bar will take you to work. When you're not home a quick swipe down will take you home.
I like that I set my left scroll wheel to open the glove box when I press it. It's much less annoying to open the glove box this way.
There is a glove box?
You can also press the right scroll button and say “open glovebox” and it’ll open.
Can I say set cruise control?
Watch the tutorial videos
In some areas Tesla will install PPF on the lower part of the rear doors and add mudflaps to the from wheels (winter package or something like that) for free. You just have to ask to confirm, make an appointment, and show up.
Also add the Tesla app widget to your Home Screen. Makes heating the car and opening the fronk a lot easier
Keep fragrance free/gentle baby wipes and a micro fiber cloth in the car. You use the baby wipes on the white seats every couple of weeks to keep them clean. Then I personally use the wipes on the door handles, wheel, and dash. After using the wipes I finish with drying the area with the micro fiber cloth to avoid water spots.
Silver pedals for only $15 are really worth how nice they look
It's a car. Drive it. Enjoy it. It will get scratched and dinged eventually. Don't let your wife destroy your rims
Don’t wear jeans in the car.
Don’t wear any clothes. Use seat heaters
Too late.. bought the car 6 months ago. Blue spots on driver seats now 😂😂
Dish soap removes the blue - like wiping with slightly soapy damp rag, followed by rinse-wipe with a non-soapy damp rag. They’re surprisingly easy to keep clean, and having owned Teslas with both black and with white seats, I wildly prefer the white. To each their own, though.
Oh I like white. If I have to buy another Tesla, it will again have white seats :) . There are many things in Tesla which I don’t like, white seat is not one of those.
Do you wear blue jeans on ya white seats?
Yes! Dark wash, even!
Sales guy made it sound like the white won't get dirty. Even though his coworker has kids and pets.
I told him it looks nice. I wanted to see in person. I wouldn't get it because classic black is always ncie. But he tried to sell the does that the white wouldn't get dirty Lol
I’ve heard this but so far no issues.
You mean don’t buy cheap jeans
You can if you ceramic coat it. Otherwise just use baby wipes and it’ll wipe off
You people with your ceramic coatings 😂 they don’t do anything for interior. Only paint on the outside
They definitely help to keep the seats clean for longer, so you won't have to clean as often. I've noticed it personally, jeans don't leave stains anymore.
Install the velcro meshes available on Amazon above the ventilation holes facing rearwards below each front seat.
It's like 5-10$ total.
Lots of horror stories of stuff falling inside these holes then rattling around at each turn with no way to get them out
Set your eq in a v shape and add +1 or 2 to the woofer
Set the trunk height immediately if you have a garage! Otherwise it might open too far and get an instant ding or scratch from your garage door above you.
On trips pack as light as possible. Weight is a big factor in range & efficiency. Then pre plan, Set the distance between charge points about 120 miles apart. This should keep you within the 20-80% sweet spot for charging the battery. This will keep you driving the most and waste the least amount of time charging. I found randomly the car, not the station would limit charging speeds to 50Kw or less. But it only would happen if the battery was below 20%.(or above 80%) Super frustrating when you planned 20-30 min stop. Then got stuck charging from 5-20% which added an extra 20 min😡. So I stopped letting it get below 20% on trips unless it was the last leg. Only time to ever charge @100% should be before a trip. This should give you about 150 miles before first charge. After that don't bother charging past 80% unless you NEED it to even get to your next stop. Other than that ABC(always be charging) that way you aren't stuck waiting to get someplace... In the car set your charge limit to 70-80% this will save your battery and prolong its life.
Oh... A roof carrier/bike rack external carrier has surprisingly detrimental range effects especially at highway speeds 69mph+ easily a minimum additional 30% range loss. On top of the 30-35% loss you already get from highway speed travel. Found out the hard way in the S Performance. 5 adults, luggage & aero smooth roof carrier... Was fighting for 90 miles of range from full charge 😔 worse trip ever doubled out travel time... Weight, drag, speed, and external temps all added up to a perfect storm of abysmally shitty range... So be careful pre-plan and work on taking the least amount of stuff possible.
Buy the OEM all weather floor mats. More expensive but way better quality than the Amazon variants
Bought a chicken. Any tips and tricks?
The hole in the back isn't for gas
Make sure it’s organic ☺️
Please post that to chicken fanboy subreddit.
The spot where the gas goes is not for gas.
Slow Charge to 80% every night for commute. Wipe the gorgeous white seats with cleaner often. :). Enjoy.

All weather floor mats and trunk liner are a good investment even if you don’t live in a cold weather area. Mine saved me from a recent coffee spill.
I think the premium connectivity is worth it. The home link can be screwy and might have opted for the MyQ connectivity if it were available at the time. While not often, the home link can close the garage upon arrival if it’s already open. It’s also caused the garage to close while my husband was backing out. Only a handful of times but still more than I’d have liked.
I’ve never had an issue with the nav though a lot of other people say they have.
If you have an iPhone create a shortcut on your Home Screen to unlock or set the climate.
You have 24 hours left to use Christmas mode so take advantage of that while you can! It’s in the toy box. If you don’t you’ll have to wait another whole year until it’s relevant again
Start with a matt screen protector (to get rid of glare under direct sunlight) Metal pedals are also really nice to have. Get a licensed electrician to install a 50amp outlet for you and get the tesla portable charger for overnight charging. (I am getting 10-11 percent of charge per hour on my MYLR)
There's a specific way to close the frunk - don't just slam it down - I wish they had told me during my delivery day.
I also have myrwd - and have the 4680 battery - you can keep battery charged to 100% and not worry about keeping it at 80% (previous battery) - again another thing I wish they told me upon delivery
4680 is not LFP so 80% still recommended. If your manual says 100%, you apparently have LFP
What specific way? Always slamming mine down.
Push the frunk down both hands to the right and left of the tesla symbol. Pushing on the tesla symbol can cause latch wear, and pushing above can cause dents/bends in the aluminum.
yep, and this isn't a tesla thing, my boxster is the same way, and that's the same "funk hood" as a 911.... aluminum frunk closing is a bit more delicate than most people treat their cars and does feel flimsy but it's supposed to be that way.
Joe mode
Don’t wear brand new jeans if you are gonna drive it It will stain your seats with this light blue glare. There is ways to clean it but it’s a pain.
Whatever you do, don't start looking for advice on Youtube, they're almost all literally just shills who are full of shit and trying to sell shitty products.
I got a 2023 LFP model 3 just before fall and love it.
Best thing in the world you can do is get the 14-50 outlet installed if you don't have one and a 40amp circuit (your rwd probably charges at 32a max like my rwd model3) -- IMO everything else is secondary to having full charging capcacity at home, plus all that available wattage helps a TON when preconditioning the car.. when it's cold out you can lose charge even if you're running 25 amps at 240v to run defrost and heat the battery...)I can't stress this enough.
The rwd model y is the only thing that gave me any kind of notion of "buyer's remorse" since it wasn't a thing before i bought the model 3... I think you get a lot more options than the model 3 rwd gets that are disabled (paywalled to the awd model 3s) ... I think you still get the full "premium" sound, under dash lights, hepa, and a few other things ... the model y is actualy a decent amount cheaper to insure for some reason.. probably enough to make it worth the price difference tbh. (look it up... i'm not joking)
USAA has the cheapest rates if you or any family have ever been in military.
I went down the rabbit hole of looking at shit like seat covers, ppf, etc etc etc.
I am going to do ceramic myself, because i can do it for like 150 bucks in my barn, and I don't care if it's absolutely perfect. It's just nice to have. I don't need to spend thounds on having someone else do it perfectly and PPF my car and have more than a new paint job tied up in protecting tesla's notorioulsy shitty factory paint.
That all said, coming from a porsche, I have nothing bad to say about the build quality of the 2023 cars, they have a lot of improvements every year from 2018-2023... a 2021 feels susbtantially different to me than a 2023 ...
I still consider the porsche the ultimate "driver's car" but in some way the model 3 is the ultimate "get in and drive" car.. it's just too easy, and it's just way easier to have it ready to get on the road withotu touching anything.. get in and drive, and even our "loser rwd models" have enough torque to get around any car on the road if we need to... I don't care about straight line acceleration these days, it's just not as fun as tackling corners and i bought this car as a fun commuter, and that is all it is.
I can take still take corners better than most people on the road, but i *REALLY* feel the weight. The car feels stable, but not nimble. The steering feels too direct in all teslas IMO (cybertruck i've never driven and i like what they're doing with it)
I think you made the right purchase.
Oh btw I only use the "mobile charger" and i bought a bunch of adapters to go from 14-50 to other 240v outlets (found them cheap, you can just get the tesla adapters too.. but the more the merrier . if you have proper adapters it will self regulate amperage based on plug.. i just adjust as needed)
Yes, get rid of that stupid paper floor mat.
Use some gentle cleanser leather wipes once a week to avoid fabrics from staining your white seats. The white interior looks fantastic but it does require a bit more maintenance to maintain the “as-new” look.
We use Meguires leather wipes. Great product and works really well.
Don’t wear brand new blue jeans on the white seats…. Baby shampoo will remove 99% of things from the white seats… blue jeans is part of that evil 1%
Don’t rice it out.
Say bye to all your gas station apps.
Don't buy the white interior. It is a bitch to keep clean.
Do not park close to the curb, you will gash your tires and rims.l, and get some type of air pump for your tires when they have a slow leak.
Yes get the black seats
Get rid of this RWD and get a LR instead. You are welcome.
Buy S3XY buttons and a camera cover for the cabin camera
Try not to shit your pants while you’re on the white seats.
Get flaps and get it wrapped
Initially enjoy the smoothness of chill mode… and make standard mode a quick selector on your steering wheel so you can activate as I call it Porsche mode.
Onlyfans @MsKiraKiraX
Yeah no touch less car washes and don’t damage the wheels. The tires wheels and glass are incredibly expensive if damaged (less so if you got the regular Geminis) so take great care like a sports car.
No touch less carwashes? What do you recommend
I used touch less carwashes. No big deal except some discoloration of door trim which I was able to buff out easily. I have switched to washing myself though because I enjoy it
Wipes for stainless steel refrigerators (Weiman) removes the discoloration easily, fyi.
Sell the RWD and buy a dual motor version.
Don’t get any service from Tesla!!!!
Baby wipes for the seats.
Baby wipes clean the white seats really well
Looks like the LBC! Highly recommend the center console organizer tray and all weather mats
I’ve had one since 2020. If you live where there’s snow, you need winter tires. I got stuck twice.
All wheel drive?
Turn sentry mode on and get all season mats
Sentry mode is great, but it eats range while parked. If you’re parked in a locked garage, you might consider turning it off and only using it when parked in public
Use unscented baby wipes to clean the white seats
Most people get range anxiety first. It goes away with experience. What helped me is a long 4400 miles round trip over two weeks. Always put your destination in the car navigation for long trips, it will plan stops and pre-heat battery for you as you approach supercharger. Also know if you will have charging at your destination. If not, add one more stop to the closest supercharger as a last stop after your destination, so that the car nav algorithm would ensure you have enough charge to reach next charging stop.
Download ABRP if you like to pre-plan, but I stopped using it and just trust Tesla nav algorithm.
If you have sentry, expect some few % charge lost overnight
Congrats! Are you in US? I’m curious if it has LFP and what’s the real world mileage
Congrats. Get rubber floor mats asap!!
Argghhhhh!!!!!
Enjoy it!
I want that center console 😆
Depending on where you live the glass roof solar shades in the summertime are game changers
Congrats and Happy holidays!! Just picked up my MYLR this past Friday.
Buy the rubber floor mats, rubber trunk liner, and rubber frunk liner. Then buy the $65 hood liner for the interior roof. That sun is hot.
Drive a lot. Don’t forget to rotate tires every 3-4k. Americas Tire does it for free
Ceramic leather shield
Get a sunshade. You'll need it in summer.
Get after market clips for it, or an entirely aftermarket roller-shutter solution. The OEM Tesla sunshade falls down way too easily, and is frankly terrible. Bigger clips help, but at some point you'll start lusting after one that actually properly rolls closed.

Get Tessie, the app and see if it's worth paying for. It collects and graphs awesome nerd stats for your car.
Invest in good quality all-weather floor mats! Out of all of the accessories I bought, they are the most critical/practical. Tux Mat is a great option for full coverage up the side walls.
Keep some baby wripes to clean those white seats
Pin to drive for security and peace of mind.
Use the navigation feature a lot. Takes away range anxiety as it's very accurate.
Buy bright white aftermarket LED light strip that goes under the frunk rubber. It looks amazing compared to the button light that came with the car
Cool idea! Got a pic or a product!?
Absolutely ceramic coat the white seats.
We've got a white interior and use baby wipes to clean the seats. Works great. If you got through a car wash - out your car in "car wash" mode .. always charge to 80%. Enjoy !! It will be the best product you ever used in your life. Congratulations 💃🏻
Ceramic coat those white seats! I did and I am happy for it 😁

Make sure you have a 220V charger at home ASAP otherwise you will be spending a lot of time out of your day charging...
Relaxing and enjoying. Merry Christmas.
All weather mats! And don’t break the bank. These Taptes are awesome! TAPTES 9PCS Tesla Model Y 7... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4GMVZZF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
they sell these reflective sunshades just for the roof
-either get these, or get the roof tinted with a film that has very good heat rejection
-standard sunshade for the windshield
-all weather floor mats
-extended length mud flaps - if you look at older teslas, they have paint chips in this area
-ceramic hybrid wax spray & make the glasses slick - griotts 3-in-1
Get all 9 windows tinted ASAP
Seat covers. I got them a week before a technician got grease on my white seats. I was lucky.
Adjust the opening height of the liftgate to make it easier to reach or to avoid low-hanging ceilings or objects (for example, a garage door or light)
The back seats spigen seatbelt thingy. The deep dish floor mats. The storage organizers. Seat covers.
Make sure your headlights are not set to high beams at all times and think that you have auto headlamps!! do not blind people on the road!
Gun it!!
Get rid of the cargo cover, you dont need them.
For tips: turn off the auto high beams, they suck. The auto wipers are hit and miss so if they are “miss” while you are driving, click the button on the end of the left stalk and use the left scroll wheel to adjust wiper speed (click it left or right to adjust speed up and down)
Accessories I’ve been very happy with: get a mat for the dash, makes it look nicer and cuts down on glare. There’s a trash bin that nests in the rear but between the two front seats, it’s almost invisible and there’s always a need for a trash can. I also got a couple of neck pillows that attach to the headrests that are great on long drives!
Enjoy the new car!
Don’t bother using the charging pad to charge your phone. It sucks lol
IMPORTANT: Set the rear hatch open limit to something lower than the metal hinge bolts on your garage door.
Yes. Sell it for a combustion engine you doof
Get the Black interior, it stays clean.
reverse the ridiculous headrests if you are remotely tall, ccs adapter is nice, would also recommend sunshades for roof, and use the app to off gas the smell before you get into it for a while, otherwise enjoy
how does the RWD compare to the all wheel LR? seems more cost efficient to just get a LR
Got the lfp on the rwd here in Canada so the gap between the range isn’t as big but the LR is $10k more so more cost efficient in Canada atleast to go rwd
When I ordered the difference between rwd lfp and awd was more than 10k. Rwd lfp uses no lithium I think (better for the environment), is obviously a bit slower, but the batteries supposedly have less degradation than the "normal" ones. Also you can charge it to 100% every day instead of 80% for the long range. So the difference in daily range is not that big.
Ppf the outside and ceramic coat the seats and floors
PPF is a complete waste of your money and possibly the biggest cash grab in the auto industry. Paying $5000+ for something that adds absolutely no value to the car and only protects minor chips is a rip off. Save yourself that money and put it towards the down payment. Get paint correction done every year or so if you really care about how it looks.
Don't be a tesla cunt
Return it and get a combustible
Yes. Don’t buy white.
Goodluck with your tesla.. 🤣🤣🤣
Buy some seat covers
Ewww no
Sell it. Buy a better car/EV
