Many tire shops are fraud and recommend replacing tires too early. Just replace tires when the wear indicator line on tires matches to tread. I was advised to replace tires at 19000 miles and still going strong after 24000 miles. https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_ie/GUID-94F63B13-EA2C-45D9-83AB-5DCA6295D587.htm Update: This post is for awareness purposes so that you don’t blindly trust tire shops. Do your research before committing to tire changes. This issue is prevalent for EVs as shops use that as an excuse for early changes. Also for the people who are doubtful about my post, I have worked in auto industry for years as an engineer

Had Tesla tow my car as it was my first time dealing with a flat and wanted to see what the experience was like with roadside assistance. Tech made me replace the tire saying the nail was crooked and too close to the sidewall…. With my experience having flats this seemed a little questionable to me. It seems to be an inch from the sidewall which should be patchable. Given it’s a newer car and I’d have to tow it to another tire shop I wanted some thoughts on whether I got scammed and what to do if I’m in this situation next time. Normally I’d just pump it and drive to my nearest tire shop but my daughter had the car and didn’t really have another option.

So I got a nail in the tire sidewall, and I need to replace the tire. I went to a local pretty trusted tire shop and they are recommending the “Falken ZE960” with the specific dimensions to the prior Tesla wheel. He said it’s about half the price and is a good brand

Does anyone have any experiences with this brand or know if it is okay to use different brands for the Tesla model Y?

Hey all!

I recently got a flat tire on my 2024 Model Y at Costco. The car has 25,000 miles and is still running on the original set of tires. I was getting notifications that the tread was light and it was tire for rotation / new tires. I’ve been quoted $350 per tire from Costco, which seems reasonable, but I’m trying to weigh my options.

I guess that means I should replace both of them. 🤢

Questions:
1. Should I buy the replacement tire from Costco, or should I consider getting it from Tesla directly?
2. What are the pros and cons of going through Costco versus Tesla Service for tire replacement?
I’d appreciate any insights on tire performance, service experiences, and whether Costco has been reliable with Tesla tire replacements. Thanks in advance for your advice!

One tire got punctured on my 2023 Tesla Model Y long range AWD Dual motor. The tires have16300miles on them. Had the car towed to Costco. Costco only have Michelin tires and cannot match the original Continental tires. Initially, I asked them to replace a pair of tires (Michelin tires). But later they called me saying they have to replace all 4 tires and cannot mix the tires. If I only want to replace two tires, I will have to sign a waiver. Four tires at $1300. (originally, two tires cost $660)

Then I called Tesla road side assistance and they replaced the punctured tire which costed me $460. The question is: Do I need to change the other tire to make the pair of tires on the rear are both new tires? Do I also need to do alignment and balancing?

Tire shaving is not an option: I have already driven the new tire for several miles; the tire shaving shop said they can only shave brand new tires. Also shaving a tire costs $180 which is just $210 different from installing another new tire in a local tire shop (total cost $390).

Never thought of getting a punctured tire can lead to so much trouble. Can any people share any experience on if I can only replace one tire (460$)? Or I have to replace a pair of tires (total: $950)? Or I replace all 4 tires at Costco (total $1300)?
